Types Of Acne Scars

Acne is majorly linked to inflammation as the chief cause of their development. In addition to that, scars too pop up during the same period. Scars have been categorized under two major divisions. One of such division results into loss of skin tissue while the second division results into excess formation tissues. Those two divisions are known as atrophic and hyper atrophic. It is out of these two categories that we experience sub categories of scars whereby which occur due to loss of skin tissue.

Under this type of we have scars such as ice pick and box car. The hyper atrophic cases comprises of keloid scars and rolling scars. There is also another type of scars known as surface scars. These types of scars are not severe and normally appear on the surface of the skin and these ones actually heal with the shedding off and replacement of skin. They normally just happen from small injuries here and there that affects the epidermis type of skin only. So as you can make out, they are the least serious among the other major scars.

Picking on the second type, the ice pick; they are said to result from one being infected by serious acne which cuts into the inner skin. They are characterized by narrow deep wounds which stretch into the dermis. These are more severe as they result into loss of skin tissues. Gestures of hole like appearances are seen. They sometimes look like one large pore from a distance. Ice pick scars makes the patient's skin look like it was pierced with sharp equipment. Skin is destroyed thus leaving one with scars.

On the other hand, box car scars are round with steep vertical sides. They are usually wider than ice picks and make the skin appear like it is depressed. These are as a result of an irritation break out which destroys collagen thereby causing the loss of tissue from one's skin. The area where the skin is lost is actually left as an orphan without support. And it is from this void that box car scars are formed. Looking into rolling scars quickly; you can infer its meaning from what the name suggests; this type of scars look like they are rolling on your skin.

These scars take place when a fibrous band of tissue grows in between your skin and subcutaneous tissue. The bands pull your outer skin known to many as epidermis thus joining it to the inner structure of your skin. So it is the pulling of the epidermis that creates the rolling scars.
The final type which is keloid scars affects your inner most skin known as dermis. It results into excess formation of tissue that causes your skin to rise above the normal skin appearance. They are common in men majorly found in men's chest part of the body. Keloid scars occurs due to the excess production of collagen.
